ISCHEMIC STROKE

 

  • Also known as cerebral infarction due to blockage of an artery
  • Accounts for about 80% of cases
  • May either be : Thrombotic or Embolic
  • Transient ischemic attack (TIA) are very similar to ischemic stroke but all signs and symptoms usually disappear within 1 hour

 

 

 

 

HEMORRHAGIC STROKE

 

  • Are due to rupture of an artery
  • Accounts for about 20% of cases
  • May either be: Intracerebral or Subarachnoid
